The EDCTP-COREP COVID-19 Household Cluster Investigation

People who have recently been diagnosed with COVID-19 will be invited to join the study. We will follow-up and test the people living in their home to see if they also get the infection. This information will help us better understand how COVID-19 spreads in households, and how we can prevent it.

Objectives of the study are:

  • Define epidemiological parameters of SARS-CoV-2 infection, including the reproductive number, transmissibility, and clinical disease spectrum;
  • Assess demographic, behavioural, and household-level risk factors for infection and transmission and the feasibility of implementing preventive behaviours;
  • Assess potential vaccine uptake and hesitancy

Target Population

We are enrolling 15 – 20 primary cases of COVID-19 and their household members (approx. 120 participants), including household members who are adults, adolescents, and children.

Participants will complete questionnaires and have serum and respiratory samples collected to test for COVID-19 (PCR and antibody test) at enrolment and at follow-up on days 7, 14, and 28.
