MyPrEP.co.za

The Implementation Science team is excited to announce the launch of the MyPrEP website! This website, which is a collaboration between Unitaid’s Project PrEP and the USAID-funded OPTIONS project, is endorsed by the National Department of Health. It has the objective to communicate oral PrEP information, education and communication materials to current and potential oral PrEP users, providers and the general public in South Africa.

The website was developed using an innovative concept called Material Design. The content is displayed on simple, neat digital cards that have physical surfaces and edges which give them a ‘touchable’ look. The vibrant colours and stunning images reflect a positive vibe that is consistent with the ‘We are the generation that will end HIV’ campaign.

About the site
MyPrEP.co.za is an online content management system that translates printed IEC materials and provider job aids to an online format available via a multitude of smart devices including computer, mobile phone and tablet.

Audience
MyPrEP.co.za was built with the user at its core. With the user in mind the website was designed for 3 specific audience groups:
- PrEP users (current or potential)
- PrEP implementers and providers
- General public

Design concept
The website was developed using an innovative concept called Material Design. This concept which was first released by Google in 2014 has increasingly outdone the realm of mobile applications and has become the first choice for web designers. It is inspired by real-world aesthetics and textures.

Look and feel
The content is displayed on simple, neat digital cards that have physical surfaces and edges which give them a ‘touchable’ look. The vibrant colours and stunning images reflect a positive vibe that is consistent with the ‘We are the generation that will end HIV’ campaign.

User Reactions & Interaction
MyPrEP was designed to inspire our users and give them an easy and wonderful experience. The website has an intuitive interface that uses a built-in reaction algorithm that allows users to like (mark as favourite) and share cards on social media. The algorithm stores the following:

- The user session
- User location
- The reaction type (like or share)
- Shares are further specified by social platform i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or email

PrEP finder
In Addition to user reactions, the website has a built-in custom Map Rendering Engine based on the Google Maps API. This allows the user to locate their nearest PrEP facility
